Built in 1973, by Burton Shipyard of Port Arthur, Texas (hull #501) as the Hermes for the Sabine Transportation Company of Port Arthur, Texas. A subsidy of the Chromalloy American Corporation of St. Louis, Missouri.

In 1980, the Chromalloy American Corporation was acquired by the Sequa Corporation of New York. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1992, the former assets of the Sabine Transportation Company where acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1996, the tug was acquired by Hvide Marine Incorporated of Tampa, Florida. Where she retained her name.

In 2000, Hvide Marine Incorporated was acquired by SeaBulk Towing Services Incorporated of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2013, she was acquired by the Portside Towing Company of Port Esquivel, Jamaica. Where the tug was renamed as the S.H. King.

She was powered by two, EMD 12-645-E2 diesel engines. With Falk reduction gears, at a ratio of 2.5:1. Turning two, four bladed, 86(in) by 56(in), stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 3,500 horsepower.

The tug's electrical service was provided by two John Deere 99kW generator sets. The capacities were 40,000 gallons of fuel oil, 700 gallons of lube oil, 700 gallons of Hydraulic oil, and 14,700 gallons of potable water.
