Built in 1965, by Burnham Associates Incorporated of Salem, Massachusetts (hull #MSZ05216K101) as the Mantis for Burnham Associates Incorporated of Salem, Massachusetts.
Designed, and built by Burnham Associates Incorporated for a dredging project on the Union River in Ellsworth, Maine. She was constructed from three modified Shugart barge sections. A "raked" bow section, built by Burnham Associates, was also added to improve both speed and handling.
Powered by a single, John Deere diesel engine. She is an azimuthing drive tractor, push boat, rated at 350 horsepower.
The Mantis is used to advance the company's dredge scows, move scows around harbors, and perform other tasks as needed. She is equipped with a 12 ton, JLG 12, telescoping boom service crane.
