Built in 1962, by Gladding Hearn Shipbuilding of Somerset, Massachusetts (hull #75) as the Thomas J. Brown for Thomas J. Brown and Son Incorporated of Staten Island, New York.

In 2022, the company was acquired by the Seward Marine Services Incorporated of Chesapeake, Virginia. And, the tug was phased out of active service and was "laid up" at Staten Island, New York.

Powered by a single, Caterpillar D399 diesel engine. She is a single screw tug, rated at 1,000 horsepower.
