Built in 1981, by Halter Marine Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana (hull #978) as the Brett Candies for the Otto Candies Company of Des Allemands, Louisiana.
In 2005, the tug was acquired by Hornbeck Offshore Transportation of Covington, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Erie Service.
In 2013, Hornbeck Offshore Transportation's tug division was acquired by Genesis Marine Company of Houston, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.
In 2015, the Genesis Marine Company renamed the tug as the Genesis Valiant.
Powered by two, EMD 12-645-E2 diesel engines. Turning two four bladed, fixed pitch, high efficiency propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 3,000 horsepower.
Her electrical is provided by two, three phase generator sets. Driven by two John Deere 6081 diesel engines. The tug's capacities are 95,366 gallons of fuel.
The towing gear consists of a Markey TDSD-32, single drum, towing winch. Equipped with 1,800(ft) of 2 (in), stainless steel towing cable.
