Built in 2003, by Washburn and Doughty of East Boothbay, Maine (hull #79) as the Kaye E. Moran for the Moran Towing Corporation of New Canaan, Connecticut.

Named for Kaye Barker, the wife of Moran's Vice Chairman, James R. Barker. And, the tenth tractor tug placed in service to the Moran Towing Company.

She was the eighth tractor tug built for the Moran Towing Corporation by Washburn and Doughty. And, the sixteenth tractor tug placed in service to the Moran Towing Corporation.

Powered by two, twelve cylinder, keel cooled EMD L12-645-F7B diesel engines. With two keel cooled Rolls Royce 1650H z-drives. Outfitted with 94(in), stainless steel propellers for a rated 5,100 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 99kW, Caterpillar 3304DIT generators with automatic paralleling.

The tug's firefighting equipment consists of two fire pump packages driven by Caterpillar 3412C engines. With Nijhuis HGTFI-1-250.500 pumps. The pumps supply two SKUM MK-250EL/VR-250-DEFL electric FiFi 1 monitors, which are mounted on the aft upper deck. Controls for the monitors are located in the pilothouse and locally at the monitors. The SKUM monitors each have a capacity of 5,300 Gallons Per Minute. And a range of 394(ft). Her firefighting systems also includes a deluge sprinkler system and eight fire stations located on the main deck.

Her deck equipment consists of a Markey DYS-42, hydraulic winch mounted on the bow. And, a hydraulic Markey DYSS-24 winch modified for towing mounted on her stern. As well as an electric Markey model CEP-40 warping capstan mounted forward for rigging a towing hawser to a ship's bitts. The winches are powered by a common Markey MHPU-60/20-250 hydraulic power unit.
