Built in 1930, by Spedden Shipbuilding of Baltimore, Maryland (hull #267) as the K. Whittelsey for the Oil Transfer Corporation of New York, New York.

In 1962, the tug was acquired by the Moran Towing Company of New York, New York. Where she was renamed as the Grace Moran.

In 1965, she was acquired by the Hercules Towing Company of New York, New York. Where the tug was renamed as the Hercules.

In 1966, the tug was acquired by the Coastline Towing Corporation of Providence, Rhode Island. Where she was renamed as the Sakonnet.

In 1975, she was acquired by Southport Marine Incorporated of South Portland, Maine. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1977, the tug was acquired by Harbor Services Incorporated of New York, New York. Where the tug was renamed as the K. Whittelsey. However, the tug sank in the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, New York.

In 1979, she was acquired by an individual Raymond Connelly of New York, New York. The tug was "laid up" at Kingston, New York.

In 1982, the tug was abandoned. And in 2008, she was scrapped. The tug was a single screw tug, rated at 1,000 horsepower.
