Built in 1951 by Lafferty Transportation of Kettle Falls, Washington as the Grant Dixon I for in-house use towing log rafts between the Boise Cascade lumber mill at Lincoln, Washington on Lake Roosevelt and a railroad connection at Kettle Falls, Washington.
In 1967, Lafferty Transportation was purchased by Knappton Towboat of Portland, Oregon. In 1970 the tug was trucked to the lower navigable section of the Columbia River.
Knappton Towboat would later become Brix Maritime of Seattle, Washington. Where the tug retained her name.
In 2006 the tug was acquired by Fremont Tugboat of Seattle, Washington, where she was renamed as the Dixie.
She is powered by a Cummins VTA 1710 diesel driving a single four-blade stainless steel prop, delivering 575 horsepower.
