Built in 1979, by the American Gulf Shipbuilding Corporation of Larose, Louisiana (hull #140) as the Gulf Thor the Gulf Fleet Marine Corporation of Houston, Texas. However, the project was not immediately completed. And, the yard only constructed the hull.
In 1981, the hull was acquired by Tidewater Marine Incorporated of New Orleans, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as the El Gato Grande.
In 2006, she was acquired by the Sause Brothers Ocean Towing Company of Portland, Oregon. Where the tug was renamed as the Tecumseh.
Powered by two, Tier III compliant, MTU 12V4000M64 diesel engines. With Reintjes WAF773 reduction gears, at a ratio of 7.454:1. Turning two, 96(in) by 99(in) pitch, right hand and left hand turning, three bladed, fixed pitch, Skew Kaplan propellers. For a rated 3,750 horsepower.
Her electrical service is provided by one, 99kW John Deere 6068-75 generator set. And one, John Deere 4045AFM 85 generator set. The tug's capacities are 93,000 gallons of fuel, 3,000 gallons of lube oil, 8,954 gallons of water.
The towing equipment consists of Markey 38, single drum, hydraulic towing winch. Outfitted with 2,400(ft) of 2.25(in) towing wire. Driven by a single John Deere 6068-75 diesel engine. With a Coastal Marine 1820-12533-13-3 winch mounted on the bow.
