Built in 1980, by D.L. Incorporated of Greenville, Mississippi (hull #4) as the Dottie D. for Marine Energy Transporting Incorporated of Fort Myers, Florida.

In 1988, the tug was acquired by Hollywood Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Capt. Charlie Lawrence.

In 1999, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

Powered by two, GM 8V-149 diesel engines. She is a twin screw, square bow, push boat. Rated at 1,200 horsepower.
