Built in 1981, by Bayou Shipyard Incorporated of Bridge City, Texas as the Alamo Spirit for the Alamo Barge Lines Incorporated of Houston, Texas.

In 1985, the tug was acquired by Hollywood Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Spirit.

In 1999, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

Powered by two, Cummins KTA19 diesel engines. With Caterpillar reduction gears, at a ratio of 5.11:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,200 horsepower.
