Built in 1952, by the Fabri-Steel Company Incorporated of Oakland, California as the Redwood City for Crowley Marine Services Incorporated of San Francisco, California.
The tug was later acquired by Star Marine Incorporated of Bainbridge Island, Washington. Where she retained her name.
She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 900 horsepower.
