Built in 2006, by LaForce Shipyard Incorporated Bayou LaBatre, Alabama (hull #146) as the Merle Gonsoulin for the LeBeouf Brothers Towing Company Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana.

In 2015, the LeBeouf Brothers Towing Company renamed the tug as the Joyce Maxine.

Powered by two, Cummins KTA38M1 diesel engines. With Reintjes WAF464 reduction gears, at a ratio of 6.1:1. Turning two, stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,700 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 60kW, Isuzu 4BG1TRW01 generator sets. The tug's capacities are 21,000 gallons of fuel, 240 gallons of lube oil, 250 gallons of slop oil, and 8,000 gallons of water.
