Built in 2002, by Hubert Volney Bays of Merrit Island, Florida (hull #1) as the Hubert Bays for Albert M. Sanford of the Palm Bay Pushboat Company of Merrit Island, Florida.
The tug was named for Hubert Volney Bays, a machinist who served in the Air Force as a welding technician during World War II.
Bays earned the WW II Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was assigned to the 876th Airborne Engineer Aviation Battalion to Normandy and campaigned in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
After World War II, he established a machine shop in Merritt Island, Florida. Where he serviced the ships of Cape Canaveral, and developed prototypes for NASA. He constructed, and developed the first portable packing house for vegetables, and developed a machine to harvest, and process scallops. One of his projects was construction of the tug.
In 2004, the tug was acquired by Marine Environmental Transportation of Forked River, New Jersey. Where she retained her name.
In 2017, the tug was acquired by the Walsh Construction Company of Chicago, Illinois. Where she was renamed as the Madeline Marie.
She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,000 horsepower.
