Built in 2002, by Rodriguez Shipbuilding Incorporated of Coden, Alabama (hull #228) as the Captain Sam for the Smith Marine Towing Corporation of Morgan City, Louisiana.

Powered by three, Caterpillar 3412 diesel engines. With ZF refection gears, at a ratio of 6.50:1. Turning three, stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers. She is a triple screw tug, rated at 3,600 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 45kW, Northern Lights generator sets. The tug's capacities are 36,000 gallons of fuel, 400 gallons of lube oil, and 8,000 gallons of potable water.

The towing equipment consists of a side by side, double drum, Intercon DD-125 towing winch. Outfitted with 1,900(ft) Of 1.5(in) towing wire.
