Built in 1971, by the LeMay Barge and Supply Company of Greenville, Mississippi (hull #322) as the H.K. Thatcher for Helena Marine Service Incorporated of Helena, Arkansas.

In 1977, the tug was acquired by Gladders Barge Line Incorporated of St. Louis, Missouri. Where she retained her name.

In 1984, she was acquired by the Ingram Barge Company of Nashville, Tennessee. Where the tug was renamed as the Charlie Everhart.

Repowered in 2004, and rebuilt in 2009. She is driven by two Cummins KTA38-M3 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 7:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,800 horsepower.
