Built in 1966, by the Hillman Barge and Construction Company of Brownsville, Pennsylvania (hull #526) as the Beverly Thomas for Thomas Petroleum Transit of Butler, Pennsylvania.

In 1976, the tug was acquired by Ashland Oil Incorporated of Freedom, Pennsylvania. Where she was renamed as the City of Port Allen.

In 1993, she was acquired by the TPT Transportation Company of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1998, the tug was acquired by Kirby Inland Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where she retained her name.

In 2003, she was acquired by Deloach Marine Services Incorporated of Port Allen, Louisiana. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2007, the tug was acquired by the Ingram Barge Company of Nashville, Tennessee. Where she retained her name.

In 2022, she was acquired by IntraTug (the Intracoastal Tug and Barge Company) of Maurice, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as the Relay.

Repowered in 1989, she is driven by Caterpillar 3508 diesel engines. With Caterpillar reduction gears, at a ratio of 5:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,550 horsepower.
