Built in 1969, by the Gulfport Shipbuilding Corporation of Port Arthur, Texas (hull #712) as the Girlie Knight for the Mid-South Towing Company of Metropolis, Illinois.

In 2002, the Mid-South Towing Company became the TECO Barge Line Incorporated Metropolis, Illinois. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2009, she was acquired by the Ingram Barge Company of Nashville, Tennessee. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2012, the Ingram Barge Company renamed the tug as the Carol McManus.

Powered by three, GM 16-645E7B diesel engines. With Falk reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.074:1. Turning two, fixed pitch propellers mounted in kort nozzles. She is a triple screw towboat, rated at 9,210 horsepower.
