Built in 1981, by McDermott Shipyard Incorporated of Amelia, Louisiana (hull #258) as the Valiant for the Bulkfleet Marine Corporation of Houston, Texas.

In 1981, the tug was chartered to the Gulf Oil Corporation of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Where she retained her name.

In 1984, the Bulkfleet Marine Corporation was consolidated into the Signet Maritime Corporation of Houston, Texas. Where the tug her name.

In 1985, she was chartered to the Mobil Oil Corporation of New York, New York. Where she retained her name.

In 1988, she was leased to the Texaco Marine Company Incorporated of Beaumont, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1988, the tug was acquired by the Texaco Marine Company Incorporated of Beaumont, Texas. Where she retained her name.

In 2004, she was acquired by Penn Maritime Incorporated of Stamford, Connecticut. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2012, Penn Maritime Incorporated was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2018 the tug was scrapped.

In 2004, the tug was modified with a Bludworth coupler system. Ocean Tug and Barge Engineering of Milford, Massachusetts designed the overall installation, and worked with J. Cook Marine of Bradford, Rhode Island on the design of the connector unit itself.

Powered by two, six cylinder, Mak Maschinenbau GMBH 6MU55IAK diesel engines. Turning two, cast steel, fixed pitch propellers. She was a twin screw tug, rated at 8,000 horsepower.

The tug's electrical service was provided by two, 190kW, Marathon generator sets. With a third, auxillary 190kW generator set. Her capacities were 213,187 gallons of fuel.

The tug was "married" with the 473.8(ft), by 42(ft), by 84(ft), 190,000(bbls) barge, the Bulkfleet Pennsylvania. Which was constructed in 1981, by the General Dynamics Corporation of Quincy, Massachusetts for the Bulkfleet Marine Corporation of Houston, Texas.

In 2004, the barge was extensively rebuilt. The modifications included the addition of a double hull, a redesign of the stern skegs on the barge, to accommodate the Bludworth coupler system pads. And, the modification of the tug structure to accommodate the Bludworth sidepad units. As well as the barge's movable skegs were replaced with fixed skegs, and a large bar was set into the head of the notch for the Bludworth coupler mounted on the bow of the tug, to clamp on to. The completed, double hulled barge, was renamed as the Everglades.
