Founded in 1978, by Ray Eckstein, with vessels that would later become the Marquette Transportation Company's River Fleet. Eckstein would later partner with two other companies, Eckstein Marine Services and HLC Tugs Incorporated.
The company maintains three divisions, the River Fleet, the Gulf-Inland Fleet, and an Offshore Fleet.
The Marquette Transportation Company provides marine transportation services along the Mississippi River system, Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, the Eastern Seaboard. As well as offshore markets in the Caribbean, Central, and South America.
